Description |
The Jiaosi Hot Springs won their fame early on in the Cing Dynasty when they were known as the "Tangwei Hot Springs", and were selected by Wu, Jhu-Fan, the Cing Dynasty Kavalan Magistrate, as one of the "8 most scenic spots in Yilan". The source of the springs is located under the mountains behind Fuchong Temple in Deyang Village. The springs flow into irrigation channels along the highway and across the railway into a bigger channel where in the old days local residents enjoyed their daily soak in the wonderful hot water. Nowadays, there are still two public hot spring rooms on this spot providing people with a different kind of hot springs experience. Through years of effort and promotion, today's Jiaosi Hot Springs offer a more diverse and fascinating hot springs culture to visitors. The Yilan County Government launched the "Jiaosi Hot Springs Festival" in 2004 with a series of activities to attract tourists. In October 2004, a Jiaosi Folk Art Performing Stage was established allowing visitors the opportunity to enjoy the special Yilan folk art performances in addition to the wonderful hot springs. Yilan's unique geographic terrain harbors a fault line running through it. In combination the rich underground water resources, Jiaosi's rare flatland hot springs were formed. The Jiaosi Hot Springs are of the odorless, colorless, carbonic type. The hot spring water contains numerous minerals, flows year round, and is said to have healing effects for skin and stomach problems. Recently, with rising health consciousness around world and the emergence of the trendy SPA, Jiaosi fits right in by promoting hot springs houses which allow people to experience the fun of healthy hot springs. A hot soak in Jiaosi's springs has become a standard activity among travelers. There are approximately 100 hot springs hotels in the Jiaosi area, justly making it the famed "home of the hot springs". In recent years, the Farmers' Association in Jiaosi has dedicated itself to promoting the hot springs industry with such items as hot springs vegetables, hot springs mineral water, and hot springs fish farming. By making every use of the hot springs, their aim is to create a new source of income for local agricultural households as well as to promote the local travel industry. |
